1. Selection Procedure

Candidates for ZFI Fellowship, 2016 will be selected on the basis of a written test and interview. The schedule of written tests is as under

14th May 2016: Srinagar
Venue: Vitasta School of Law & Humanities, Near Mahindra showroom, Pohru Crossing Nowgam, Bye Pass
Srinagar, Kashmir 190015

21st May 2016: Mallapuram/ Kozhikode
Venue: Malabar Dental College & Research Centre, Manoor Chekanoor Road, Edappal, Mallappuram

28th May 2016: Kolkata
Venue: Aliah University campus at 17, Gorachand Road, Kolkata-700014 (behind Lady Brabourne College)

01st June 2016: Delhi
Venue will be God’s Grace School - North Campus, Abul Fazal Enclave - D Block, Jamia Nagar, New Delhi 110025.

Venue for other locations will be communicated on this website in due course. In centers other than Delhi interview may be held the same afternoon. Please keep checking this website.

Short listed candidates at Delhi centre will be interviewed the next day from 10 am at CISRS House, 14 Jangpura-B, Mathura Road, Opp. Rajdoot Hotel, New Delhi 110014.

Candidates at other centres listed above will be interviewed in the same city. Exact venue of interview in Srinagar, Mallapuram/ Kozhikode and Kolkata will be uploaded on this website.

(a) Technical Graduates (medicine, engineering, chartered accountancy, law, and the like) and Post graduates in any field, aged 19-27 years (as on 01 Sept of the year in which the UPSC Prelim Exam will be held for which the selection procedure is organized) are eligible to apply. Applications are to be submitted online only. The deadline for online application expires three days before the respective exam dates. No monetary allowance is admissible for appearing at the test and interview.

3. Selection Procedure
Candidates have to appear (in English medium only) for written test of 1 hr 15 minutes and interview as follows:

(A) Written:
(i) General Studies, Aptitude, CSat 100 Marks
(on the pattern of UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam)

(ii) Essay - 150 words 50 Marks
(B) Interview 50 Marks

Please paste one passport size recent photograph on a printout of the email information that's received by you from ZFI in respect of the selection procedure and also sign this paper. This will be your admit card.

Also bring a Govt issued ID proof (Aadhar Card, Election Card, Passport or Driving License).

After selection of candidates, they are required to follow the following procedure:

4. Joining
a) To report to ZFI office at CISRS House, 14 Jangpura-B, Mathura Road, New Delhi 110014 at 10 am 23rd June or another date to be notified to the selected candidates. Coaching classes are likely to start from 1st July 2016.

Depositing the Originals
b) To deposit all their original mark sheets plus certificates and degrees with ZFI - from matriculation to post-graduation. These will be returnable on or after 31 May of the year that falls two years after the year during which the selected ZFI Fellow joins ZFI.

c) If, for any reason, a candidate needs that any or all of the degrees/certificates be returned to him/her earlier, then the entire amount incurred on his/her coaching & residence by ZFI shall be refunded by him/her to ZFI before any of the degrees/mark sheets/certificates can be returned to him/her. Also, for this purpose, application shall be emailed to ZFI in prescribed form.

d) Please bring 2 passport size recent photographs and

e) A copy of the Govt issued ID proof (Aadhar Card, Election Card, Passport or Driving License) duly signed by yourself.

5. Hostel:
i) In New Delhi, the ZFI Fellows will have to compulsorily live in the accommodation provided by ZFI.

ii) For accommodation, to be provided by ZFI, each male ZFI Fellow will have to pay ZFI at the subsidized rate of Rs. 2,000/- per month. Full amount of Hostel charges for 20 months (Rs.40,000/-) will have to be deposited through bank draft payable in New Delhi in advance at the time of registration before joining the Fellowship.

iii) In the gentlemen's hostel, the kitchen is equipped with gas cylinder, cooking utensils and a cook. The cooking material has to be jointly and mutually funded by the ZFI Fellows through the Monitor to be nominated by ZFI.

iv) Lady ZFI Fellows will be provided food in the hostel itself against payment.

6. Security Deposit:
In addition, at the time of registration before joining, each candidate will have to deposit a bank draft of Rs. 25,000/- favoring ZAKAT FOUNDATION OF INDIA payable at New Delhi as security deposit, returnable not earlier than 31 May of the year that falls two years after the year during which the selected ZFI Fellow joins ZFI. Behind the bank draft please write the candidate's full name & parent's names. Out of this amount suitable deduction may be made in case of any default by the candidate.

7. Affidavit:
Each ZFI Fellow will have to file an affidavit with ZFI on the prescribed format which will be sent to selected candidates after declaration of result of written test and interview.

8. Financial Assistance for Coaching
Taking into consideration the candidate's and his/her financial capacity, ZFI will sponsor the coaching fees to the maximum extent of ninety percent of the net amount payable by ZFI to any coaching institute. The balance amount will be deposited in advance (with the ZFI) by the ZFI Fellow. In case the ZFI agrees also to sponsor the Test Series, this percentage will come down to eighty (for Test Series).

9. ZFI's decision is final
By applying for ZFI Fellowship the candidate is presumed to unconditionally accept and solemnly affirm that he/she fully agrees to abide by all these rules and those other rules which the ZFI may make in future and that in all matters the decision of ZFI shall be final and binding on him/her.

10. Sanction against non-compliance:
In case a candidate, after his/her selection, ever refuses to comply with any of these requirements, his/her security in the form of bank draft shall be forfeited in addition to any other fine/penalty leviable by ZFI none of which shall be questioned in any administrative/legal/judicial proceeding.

11. Welcome on board:
The selected ZFI Fellows are required to select the coaching institutes as per their optional subject and inform the details through email at within ten days. The candidates are taken under the joint guidance and supervision of Zakat Foundation of India, Aishabai Trust and Interfaith Coalition for Peace in order to help them properly prepare for the Preliminary, Mains, and Interview for Personality Test for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. They are expected to treat themselves not as guests of ZFI. Instead, they would do their best to ensure that this short association of 20 months or so turns into an asset for both.

ZFI selects and sponsors the coaching of a limited number of 'ZFI Fellows,'  the academically meritorious and financially deserving candidates with total devotion for appearing for the highly competitive Civil Services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission of India (UPSC).

Candidates are selected after an extensive application, test and interview process.

The Civil Services offer about 1250 positions a year, out of a pool of 11,00,000 yearly candidates - i.e. 0.11% success rate.

Candidates gain admission to premier coaching institutes of Delhi such as Vajiram, Synergy, Sri Ram, Ensemble, Interactions. Their fee is paid by ZFI directly to the institutes. They are provided accommodation at ZFI's hostels.


Cost to support one ZFI Fellow for 1 competitive cycle is more than INR 1,50,000/- (or US $3000/-). This includes tuition, housing and personal expenses.
