Since 2006, Lebanese-American photographer Halim Ina (*details below) has been visiting Zakat Foundation of India to photograph some of the less-privileged people touched by ZFI. ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
*HALIM INA is a photographer of Lebanese-American origin who lives in Cleveland, USA. Being a truly global citizen, he spent his childhood in Nicaragua, Lebanon and the United States of America. Halim's work strives to give a voice to those less privileged in today’s world, so as to represent them. He has photographed people in Lebanon, Kenya, Senegal, Cuba, United States, and India among many other nations. His signature style is a portrait with a neutral background. He describes his backgrounds as natural and "found," without any need for a backdrop. His goal is to avoid furthering stereotypes of a less-privileged person's surroundings, and instead focus on the human being. Each year Halim revisits the people he photographed in the year prior and hands them copies of their portraits – much to their delight!
Halim describes his project with Zakat Foundation of India as follows: "These portraits were made on behalf of the subjects, with their benefit being at the center of the photography.” He feels that by fundraising through the photography, “the viewer can reach the subject through the photographer and the circle becomes complete.”
